The Boring Platter. Anything but.

This is the one. Hand sculpted from white clay and black sand off the wild West Coast, with a cream speckled finish no two platters will ever share. Big enough for the whole table, the folded edges built to keep the crackers off the floor. Put your old plates out of their misery, pour the wine, and let dinner take all night.

Made one at a time, in small firings

Every platter is sculpted by hand by me, Stephen, in our Avondale studio, with our three girls running in and out. That means I can only make so many at once. When a firing fills, it closes, and the next one opens. So when you order, you are not buying off a shelf. You are taking your place in the kiln. It is slower. It is the whole point.

One platter. Every coastline.

The same Boring Platter lives in every one of our sand and clay blends, because every blend is a different New Zealand shore. The black sand of the West Coast. The soft speckle of the East. Start with the coast you love, and collect the rest the way you collect places you have been.

Why a platter named Boring

Because the story is anything but. A month before our wedding I hired a pottery wheel to make our plates. A week later I quit my job and went all in. Every piece we make now carries a memory, a beach, a person we named it after. Once it leaves our studio, the next story is yours. You are the Author now.
